January Favorite

It’s time to announce my favorite book of January and that is 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami (click on the title to read a full review).

Even though that was not a 5 star book, I do have a weakness for Murakami. I didn’t really love all of his books and this one was a little above average. It was full of creativity and it also had a complex plot. I’m sure I will never read a book similar to this one, even though it left me with many unanswered questions and the ending was kinda disappointing.

I also picked this one because 98% of the books I have read in January were pretty bad and this was the best option.

Starlight Nights

As I promised on the post where I presented the PageHabit January box, here’s the review for the book that came with it: Starlight Nights by Stacey Kade.

From the moment I’ve seen the cover of this book I was pretty sure I’m gonna enjoy it.

Rating: 3.5/5

I loved how well Stacey Kate built the characters. You can see how both Calista and Eric begin as being weak persons but throughout the story it gets obvious how much they change, how strong they become and how mature they end up to be. They both know they’re flawed and they both accept each other the way they are instead of trying to change one another based on “how it should be”.

Their parents are horrible persons from the beginning to end and I believe that’s the antithesis this book needed: Eric and Calista vs Rowley and Lori.

I loved how well Stacey depicted the Hollywood ideas through Calista’s mother. It was shocking to think that the fictive life of Calista actually takes place in reality, behind the scenes of some of the celebrities we admire.

Back to our intriguing love story, Calista and Eric are those type of people that are beautiful together even if they are not a couple, if that makes any sense. There could be a crowd of people and I would still ship them. It was obvious they’re ending up together but hey, you never know how surprising an author can be (thank you, Stacey, for not ruining this for us). It was awesome the way their love story developed from beginning to end with an obvious chemistry at a perfect pace.

Starlight Nights contains everything you might expect: addiction, cliches, bad choices, character development, hollywood life and a messy but beautiful and unique love story.

PageHabit January Box

As of January, something pretty important happened to me: I became a moderator for the PageHabit romance boxes!

I take part in an awesome team and I’m happy to show you the romance box for January. Also, you can find the book review in the PageHabit book club on Facebook.

As you can see, you can get plenty of goodies!

My favorite ones are the sheet face masks. They were the first sheet masks I have tried and it was also the first time I tried any korean beauty items (yes, they were made in Korea). I definitely recommend them! I think I’m gonna get some more because they’re worth it. My face was so moisturized and clean, I could not believe it.

Another cool thing found in this box are the tree friendly pencils, what’s cool about them is that there is sandpaper attached where you can sharpen them, they’re so unique! I haven’t seen them before!

Of course, you can’t have a bookish subscription box without a cool bookmark, this time there is a HARRY POTTER ONE! It’s my first HP bookmark so I was pretty excited! Talking about bookmarks, you get a second bookmark which is too cool! You attach it to the page of the book (you can see that I attached it to Starlight Nights). It looks kinda vintage and there’s a picture of many books in it. It’s my favorite bookmark I have so far.

In every PageHabit box you also get a booklet, it’s a mini book with a short story in it. Very cute and entertaining!

And now last but not least, the Starlight Nights book along with Stacie Kade’s autograph, a hand-written letter and annotations throughout the book. We’re gonna talk about that book soon, I can tell you that I enjoyed it! I trust them when they pick the books and they did an awesome job choosing this one. Also, the annotations in it makes it feel so personal, like the book was written just for you. Review to be posted.

I hope you liked my “unboxing” and maybe I made you think about subscribing to PageHabit, it’s definitely worth it!
